Cheilomenes Lunata
Identification: Medium-sized (body length 7 mm), shiny. Head and pronotum black with yellow markings. Elytra black with a pattern of red or yellow patches. Biology: Adults and larvae predatory, especially on aphids, including wheat aphids. Freshly hatched larvae remain in their egg batches for a while, eating unhatched eggs.
Rietvlei Nature Reserve Grassland. Diverse. Common in gardens, on aphid-infested plants, especially sow thistle.
