Four-Spotted Skimmer

Libellula quadrimaculata

Description:

Chunky and rather dull colored; the black and amber basal spots, plus the spot at the nodus, should identify it readily. This is a female specimen.

Habitat:

Generally found at small boggy or marshy ponds.

Notes:

I found this lovely dragonfly on my false indigo bush in my yard. I feel particularly lucky to have discovered this because it's generally found around really wet areas. We've had a VERY significant amount of flooding this year so perhaps we're getting lucky!
