Elephant's Ear Arum

Colocasia sp.

Description:

The wild plant has big flat leaves which do look a lot like elephant ears. Yellow spadix caught my eye...usually these are cream coloured.

Habitat:

Growing wild beside a pond in Village Bawali, Kolkata.

Notes:

The leaves, stem and tuber (depending on species) are edible although some varieties cause itching of the throat when eaten. Called Ko-chu in Bangla.
