Red paper wasp

Description:

A male red wasp which is distinguished from the female by his hooked antennae and squarish yellow face (pic 2). Curious behavior as he climbed on top of this plant. Just foraging or something else? Time sequence begins with the last pic.

Habitat:

Spotted at the edge of a deciduous forest in central Arkansas.

P. carolina never has such extensive dark markings on the thorax, so this is more likely the highly similar P. rubiginosus.
