Cicada

Tibicen linnei

Description:

Clear, lace-like wings. Green-and-brown camouflage body. Large eyes set wide apart.

Habitat:

Suburban neighborhood with mature trees.

Notes:

This was a dead cicada my daughter found lying in our driveway. I put the husk on a white background to photograph it more clearly.

Please compare T. pruinosus http://bugguide.net/node/view/6967 with T. linnei http://bugguide.net/node/view/32143

Commonly confused with linnei, your cicada is 100% pruinosus

They're loud little creatures, aren't they? I see dead cicadas frequently during a certain point in the season, but had never seen one moulting until this summer: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/704...
