Gray squirrel eating a puffball

Sciurus carolinensis

Habitat:

spotted in friend's yard

Notes:

When I walked into the yard this guy ran from under the picnic table and up a nearby oak tree. But such an odd posture to take while eating; he was actually waving in the wind. I was able to take several pictures before a second squirrel challenged him for the mushroom; they dropped it. (the lesion on the shoulder may be the result of tree squirrel botfly)
