Spotting

Description:

Large black beetle with very long ovipositor

Habitat:

Property of rural residence

Notes:

First seen with ovipositor extended into the soil. She would (presumably) deposit her eggs @ ~7:00 p.m. every evening for ~a week & then bury herself in the soil nearby until the next evening. I never saw her feed & I see no evidence of any eggs or larvae where she'd been active. I found her dead after the period during which I observed her.
