Alice, thanks for correcting that. I went to my Audubon's Wildflowers of the Western Region and found the columbines.
Honey, I grew up with Columbine in my yard. My son sent me a picture of a Shooting Star recently from PA and they are different. Your picture is just as wonderful being Columbine as it would be a Shooting Star.
By why do you think this is a columbine and not a shooting star?
I just recently spotted the same near Tahoe. :)
