Berosus
so strange...the bug looks like he has a pre-historic lobster head...nature is fascinating...something new everyday...
Yep, Nancy, that's him...thanks!
Nance its ...Prisopus berosus as per your suggestion..!!
Nance you got it....!!
Is this it? http://www.phasmatodea.com/web/guest/pho...
Ashish, the first doesn't have the same wing; the second doesn't have the "lobster" look. And remember it was spotted in Costa Rica. Still think we are on the right track.
@ Nance or as following...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heteroptery...
Nance you want to suggest...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extatosoma_...
At first look I thought its a Salvador Dali's painting...
It has the resting posture of a walking stick, so I would try Phasmatodea, the stick insects.
After a bit of digging, I think it belongs to the family of 'Leaf Insects'http://www.amentsoc.org/insects/glossary...I keep digging :)
Can be a borer beetle...Mimicking dry stick.
Nobody picked it up yet, bummer :(One would think that with it looking so strange, someone will know what it is ... :S
OK Nicole, I will follow your advice because I am very interested in finding out its name and what it does for a living...
One strange creature!Suggestion: You should move the plainer background pic into first place. Maybe some more people will check in for it and someone might have an idea :)
This is a really strange insect! The second pic is the best...Thanks for sharing!
The camouflage is so perfect that it mimics even the lichen that is common in sticks. How many years of evolution to come into this !
The pics on the plain background show its amazing detail! Great find.
Yes, that is a cool insect!
Nice insect ! And here is a Caterpillar version: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/690...
