Winged Sumac

Rhus copallinum

Description:

Individual in the Anacardiaceae family. This plant has a compound leaf made up of opposite leaflets and a terminal leaflet. Can grow to a large shrub, and is similar in look to Brazilian Pepper. Identify this species by the presence of a winged mid-rib (leaf material extends onto stem of compound leaf) and red between leaflets. Observed specimen was just post fruit with dried fruits appearing at the end of a branch (third picture).
