Branta canadensis
The Canada Goose was spotted on August 23, 2014 at 4:35 p.m. at Newport News Park. The Canada Goose is a goose with a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brown body. Native to arctic and temperate regions of North America, it also occasionally migrates to northern Europe, and has been introduced to Britain, New Zealand, and other temperate regions. It belongs to the Branta genus of geese, which contains species with largely black plumage, distinguishing them from the grey species of the Anser genus. Colloquially referred to as the "Canadian Goose".
