Robber Fly

Promachus rufipes

Description:

This fly was struggling on the floor of our dogs room. Have little knowledge of these. In the UK we called them a horse fly and would be careful not to be bitten, Not sure if this is simmilar. Help for defined ID would be a happy event for the demised creature. I have read they attack the honey bees?

Habitat:

My garden - quite common.
