Polar Bear

Ursus maritimus

Description:

Polar Bear cub

Habitat:

Arctic coastal areas and sea ice

Notes:

This cub was a twin that was abandoned by the mother near the Prudhoe Bay oil facilities. Oil field biologists and US Fish and Wildlife monitored the bear and finally moved it to Anchorage. The cub was cared for until it was strong enough to move to a zoo in the lower 48.
