KarenSaxton - I had edited this and a few of my others several times, it kept going back to Eugene. I think I have it sticking now after 3 tries this time.
Pygmy short-horned lizard (Phrynosoma douglasii) is worth looking into. As a herp person I know there are tons of common names but I can't stand "horny toad." Don't even get me started on the Texas Christian University mascot. :-)
OK... the "horned toad" is technically a lizard, as is stated in the reference link on Wikipedia, however the popular common name for them is "horned toad".
I have updated the common name to be more precise.

Thanks for pointing out that it was still wrong!

Adorable, but could you update the location to reflect oregon desert? And how cool that there are some still somewhere!
What a cutie and a great save since you found it in the road!!

was this really a toad? it has tail on it... or was it a lizard or maybe a tadpole going to a mature frog... very cute.
Precious!
