The best ID from the reading I did yesterday is size. Fox squirrels will be about the size of grey squirrels or maybe larger. Douglas squirrels are significantly smaller. The fox squirrels also have that "dopey" look you see in greys and even the most acclimated Douglas always look sharp. The coloring is redder in the summer and greyer in the winter(on both I think).
I think now, that I saw some fox squirrels in a neighborhood in Eugene, Or. I know they weren't Greys or Douglas and had really long tails - I'm wondering how they were introduced
Very amazing picture. You should add to squirrel mission. Looking up the Fox squirrel, it is native to Eastern and Central US states.
You might want to consider the native Tamiasciurus douglasii Douglas squirrel or chickaree. Looking at this site http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/si... the Fox squirrel is heavier and larger than the Douglas, although similarly colored. It's somewhat possible you have introduced fox squirrels, but the Douglas is far more likely and your pics look like the ones that live in my forested yard

Fox squirrels have become common in California. I will however look up the other ones you've mentioned. Thanks!
