Ardea herodias
Great Blue Heron is a large wading bird with blue-gray feathers, with a wide black stripe over the eye. In flight, the upper side of the wing is two-toned: pale on the forewing and darker on the flight feathers. They wade slowly or stand statue-like, eat fish and other prey from shallow water or open fields. Their have a tucked-in neck, a very slow wing beats, and their legs create an unmistakable image in flight.
The Blue Heron is common near the shores of open water, saltwater and freshwater habitats of Central and North America, Caribbean and Galapagos. Also a rare vagrant to Spain, the Azores, England and the Netherlands. They also may be seen in grasslands and agricultural fields.
What is interesting to me is that this bird travels solo. The only time they may be seen up to 10 together is during their migration.
