Large Milkweed Bug (Adult)

Oncopeltus fasciatus

Description:

These orange and black bugs have been on my Butterfly Weed Plants since instar stage. They do not hide from the butterflies or bees in the are around them. They are all huddled in the shade of one of the leaves of the Butterfly Weed Plant. They do not appear to be eating the host plant at all.

Habitat:

They live on milkweed plants, which Butterfly Weed is related.

Notes:

These same bugs as instars (teenagers) http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/702... "O. fasciatus is commonly used in science due to ease of rearing and ease of dissection." - Wikipedia
