under the power lines where it can get a lot of sun, dominating surrounding salal and blackberry bushes and growing next to alder

Notes:

The peeled bark of this tree used to be a major cash crop in this area. It's still sold to pharmaceutical companies who render it into a very safe and effective laxative.
