Neovison vison
The American mink differs from stoats and weasels by its larger size and stouter form. It has a uniformly enlarged, bushy and somewhat tapering tail, long body, generally browny in summer and blackish in the winter months.
The species' natural range encompasses North America from Alaska and Canada through the United States except Arizona and the more arid areas of California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and western Texas. The mink lives in forested areas that are near rivers, streams, lakes, ponds and marshes.
