I think you're right Karen. I can see now that alice and nath's other spotting is Firethorn.

The leaves look more like cotoneaster to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotoneaster...
Possibly c. horizontalis which is a popular wall shrub in Europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotoneaster...

Thanks Dan. It looks like a Firethorn but I still need to see if it has thorns. My other unknown spotting is more Firethorn than this one. Are they the same?
