Rhinolophus sp.
Medium-sized bat. I have no idea on species and I only have this one pic, but any ID suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Spotted inside of a hollowed out baobab tree in the Makuleke Concession of Kruger National Park, South Africa.
AfriBats, it doesn't seem that I have a lateral view photo... they were all taken at about this same angle so as not to disturb it too much. Thanks for the suggestion though. I've changed the name back to just the genera. And Karen, I'm on that right now!
Please consider adding this to the Bats of Africa mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/2464...
There are several horseshoe bats occurring in Kruger NP. Would you have another picture, ideally showing the noseleaf in lateral view?
Thanks Dan and Clement for the ID! And thanks Alice and Karen... it's been added to the bat mission!
I think this is a Horseshoe bat. I'm not 100$ sure of the species as I can't find any decent images online, but from my fieldguide it looks like Lander's Horseshoe bat - Rhinolophus landeri. If it's not that, I think it's pretty safe to say it is a species of Rhinolophus.
