Pacific dampwood termite

Description:

The mating dance of the termite (a.k.a."flying ants") usually coincides here, according to Native tradition, with the run of lamprey eels in the rivers.

Wood, dirt; coastal temperate rain forest with high humidity

Notes:

This is the most annoying pest when you're trying to read or use a computer! A new definition to "buggy computer"! Since they are apparently good to eat, I've found that a floor lamp with an upturned edge forming a bowl, lit by an incandescent bulb will attract, kill and roast them. So far I am only giving them to the chickens; I'm not quite hungry enough...
