Common Oblique Hover Fly laying eggs

Allograpta obliqua

Description:

I was so excited to get a good photo of this hover fly. When I went to view the photos for uploading, it looked like she was laying eggs. The first photo shows a tiny white egg on the tip of a rosemary leaf. The next photos show her with her abdomen below a cabbage leaf, an egg at the end of her abdomen, trying to deposit it. She then flew to the rosemary leaf and deposited another egg.

Habitat:

Urban veggie garden.
