Blue-headed Tree Agama

Acanthocercus atricollis

Description:

The Blue Headed Tree Agama is a very large agama, reaching a maximum length of 15 inches. Breeding males have a dull blue to bluish back underside, with bright blue to straw-yellow spines. The head is a coppery-green to brilliant ultramarine on top, blue-green on the sides and peacock-blue on the throat. The tail is dull green to olive-brown. Females and non-breeding males are olive to green-brown, marbled with black above, with a black shoulder spot.

Notes:

Kibale National Park (pronounced Chibale) is a national park in South Uganda protecting moist evergreen rain forest. It is 766 km² in size and is located between 1,100–1,600 meters in elevation.. The northern part of the park has the highest elevation. Kibale is one of the last remaining expanses to contain both lowland and montane forests. In East Africa, it sustains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest.
