Hey, while I was at MIT, every winter by February red finches came to claim the top of yet bare trees for the spring, and started singing for females. Every time I saw them, even if it was cold and snowy, I knew the spring was only one step ahead :-)
The trees were in the parking lot behind the Biology Department building and each had its own red finch male on top :-)
