Rhinella festae
One of the most distinctive features of this toad is a sharply pointed nose that hooks down instead of up, hence the common name. A medium sized toad that has moderate tubercles on its dorsum. The entire toad, with the exception of the stomach is a very dark cinnamon color, the stomach being creme colored. It has no tympanum but does have a tympanic fold. It has a crest over and behind the eyes.
This individual was found on the sand area along the Makuma river in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.
This is one of the rarest finds, only one in all these years. Unfortunately, when it resembles R. margaritifera. It may be I have seen more and misidentified them. Listed as "Near threatened" by IUCN (Red List).
