Description:

American Black Duck: when the ducklings are foraging, the mother often keeps her distance to avoid competing for food. 21-25 inches long. Mainly dark, dusky head and neck paler, yellow brown undersides of wings white. wing patch violet (couldn't see in these images). Female has a mottled yellow-green bill.
