Sparisoma cretense
on the fish market in Funchal found some parrotfish - not sure which exact sp. these are - all of them have beaks
sea, atlantic ocean
Thanks for the info Laura. I had no idea such fishes existed. Thanks for sharing Monkeymind.
wow! that is an interesting info! thanks LauraMaria! I´m not good with fish...
yeah, somehow sad, but it also was a great experience to see the market with everybody shouting around how good the fish were - and they were really fresh. by 9:30 the market was then empty.
SOrry, my link for the ID suggestion wouldn't load for some reason, so I'll put it here. For more info and photos and stuff, check this out: http://www.fishbase.org/summary/speciess...
These are Mediterranean parrotfish... kinda sad to see them fished! The red one of the top is a female... parrotfish (like a lot of fish) are weird in that they are born one gender, and become another one as they get older! In these guys' case, they start off female (red) and some become male later on in their life (turning that greyish colour). Cool find, hope you get to see them in the sea one day too :)
