A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I was eating breakfast in the garden when I saw this amazing fly with spots on its tail. I ran inside for my camera but of course when I returned it had disappeared! I wandered around and was fortunate to find it again, I could hardly believe what I was seeing and was gladd to get a good clear photo!

A very beautiful photo, with very beautiful colors....
Incredible no ID can be found! It is a real challenge.
wonderful ,
I would call it the Ladybug Bee. HA!
Excellent! Can't wait for the ID.
Wow, fantastic spot & great photo!!
Thanks Martin, believe it or not the lady who took that photo on Flickr is one of my "Flickr friends". When I saw this fly I thought of Jean and wondered if she would have one in her collection but have not been to Flickr for a long time and so haven't got around to asking! Now you have answered the question without me having to ask! :)
I am not an expert but offer this link for your interest. It is certainly not the same insect but seems close.

Thanks for the comments, I have not been able to find anything like this via Google or other sources, would love to know what it is!
Great shot! This is the first time that I have found a fly to be beautiful :)
Wonderful first spotting!
Welcome to Project Noah, Anne!
Beautiful species!
Great close up shot, I hope to produce this quality work in the future.
What an excellent first spotting, welcome to project noah :)
Very beautiful capture and a nice story! :-)
to be absolutely honest it looks like it could be related to the bot fly family of flies. Do not quote me on that, as I am not all that familiar with them, and from what I can tell there are only three bot fly species in Australia. If it's not a bot, then it's a mimic or syrphid fly. Hopefully someone else who has a bit more knowledge will be able to fill us in on the exact species. :-D Very cool capture, the colors on this fly are absolutely amazing!!!
Very cool capture!
