Description:

tall, open woody shrub tthat blooms in spring, from May till the next spring it is identified by the dried flowers that persist over winter as a cluster of gried husks

Habitat:

from low to middle elevations, in open dry locations

Notes:

along the coast it may get to 15', but inland 6' - 8' is more common.
