Stink lily

Amorphophallus paeoniifolius

Description:

Flower of Stink lily (1.5 f width) or Elephant foot yam or Whitespot giant arum). Stink lily flower appear when the stored energy in the form of flour to be sufficient for flowering. Before the flowers appear, the whole leaf including the stems will wilt. Flowers arranged plural form of the typical structure of taro plant, ie the flowers grow on the cob that is protected by a sheath of flowers. Flowers imperfect, monoecious, with male flowers are located in the distal (higher) than the female flowers. This generative structure during bloom issued an enticing smell that carrion flies for pollination help.

Habitat:

Stink lily or Elephant foot yam or Whitespot giant arum is basically a crop of Southeast Asian origin. It grows in wild.

Thanks MediyansyahTaharani, a real treat - my favourite Amorphophallus! I don't think I've ever eaten this one, but I've had A.konjac as Konyacu in Japan. It's made into a rather jelly with a very mild flavour. How is this prepared/eaten and can you realy buy them this big in the market or do they tend to be sold smaller than flowering size?
