Sphecid Wasp

Hymenoptera ammophila sp

Description:

This is one of the FREAKIEST insects I have discovered. It was dusk, I thought I was seeing things. It is real small. 1/2 inch. It had BIG eyes. I think it might be a type of wasp. (I don't see a mission for Freaky bugs) LOL

Habitat:

Meadow in the Poconos.

Check out this link on genus Ammophila...http://bugguide.net/node/view/2939 and this one http://www.cedarcreek.umn.edu/insects/al.... Same family, Sphecidae, as the blue and black and yellow mud daubers but this genus looks like a closer match.

I think it might even be a type of Blue Mud Dauber wasp, but I went through tons of photos and none of red in the wings. He looked like an alien with a cap. LOL
