Black Bear

Ursus americanus

Notes:

While wandering around our reservoir this youngster surprised me by suddenly emerging from the woods, and just as quickly disappearing back into it's depths. Not the greatest quality pics, but a fun spotting!

Our town is where they bring the "nuisance" bears from elsewhere in the state, so we have quite a large population. I've had some scary close encounters in the past, but once I disciplined myself about not feeding birds in summer & keeping the garbage secured it hasn't been such an issue. I still keep an eye out while gardening though :)

Great spotting, but I'm glad it was you rather than me... I'm super scared of bears!
