Ivy Gourd

Coccinia grandis

Description:

Growing on the edge of the paddy fields. I think the young leaves of this plant can be added to soups but I'm not absolutely certain, so hopefully someone will recognise it.

Thanks Craig! I thought it looked like the Cucurbit family. It grows everywhere so probably germinates from bird droppings. Thai people eat a lot of raw cucumber and the young shoots. My landlady is always collecting them from the garden to add to soups but I'd not seen one in the garden flowering.

Take a look at this Viv. I can't see the full leaf in your photos and the suggestion is based on your plant being in Cucurbitaceae, the cucumber/pumpkin/courgette etc family, and having a white five lobed flower.
