Yellow-striped Sergeant Major

Abudefduf saxatilis

Description:

Moving in bunches and mixed with other species, these Sergeant Major fish had very pronounced black stripes down the sides of their white body, with a yellow highlight that is stronger towards the spine.

Habitat:

The warm, clear waters of the Southwestern Caribbean, along the shore of a tiny Colombian island. These fish rush out from under the dock to dart in between the legs of a vendor who sells shrimp cups to tourists landing on the island - he is chopping constantly, and drops the leftover pieces in the water, which is where the fish chow down.
