Gorilla Gorilla Beringei
Kahuzi Beiga National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo, AFRICA
The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 7,200–14,100 ft. Most are found on the slopes of three of the dormant volcanoes: Karisimbi, Mikeno, and Visoke. The vegetation is very dense at the bottom of the mountains, becoming more sparse at higher elevations, and the forests where the Mountain Gorilla lives are often cloudy, misty and cold.
"What you find when you gaze into the eyes of a mountain gorilla is not easily explained."
Thats Just fantastic! Thanks for the Great Info! always nice to know when dealing with endangered species, what a wonderful opportunity!
Thank you! I was photographing gorillas for a book "Focus on Africa" with David Anderson's Safaris based out of Santa Barbara. David Anderson offers safari discounts to amatuer photographers. He has a deep passion for Africa and his safaris are top notch. This reserve, Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Congo is close to Lake Kivu and the most beautiful place I've seen in my life. I was allowed two passes (one hour each) to trek through the jungle with porters and trackers to photograph these magnificent gorillas.
Wow incredible spot! Were you at a reserve or on a tour in to the jungle? would be great to know how you got to see these =)
