Trachylepis maculilabris
Trachylepis is a genus of skinks found mainly in Africa. Most species of skinks have no pronounced neck and their legs are relatively small. This specimen was about 20 cm long.
This species is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa. Spotted here on a fence on the small island of Chumbe just off the Tanzanian coast.
Chumbe Island is a coral nature reserve off Zanzibar developed since 1991. Find out more about Chumbe Island at http://www.chumbeisland.com
