Pigeon mountain salamander

Plethodon petraeus

Description:

During our Appalachian phototrip for salamanders I actually wanted to photograph the beautifull Plethodon yonahlossee. Unfortunatelly the temperatures were still too low to find this species... after some reasearch in the amphibian guides we found a similar species living some miles deeper in the warmer Georgia and drove another half day down to try and make some shots of this species. Plethodon petraeus lives around Pigeon mountain in Georgia where we looked the whole day in nice sunny weather. We were able to finally find just 1 specimen... Images are scanned slides
