Halyomorpha halys
Adults are approximately one inch and are different shades of brown on both the upper and lower body segments. They are in the family of “shield” beetles and stink bugs. The name “stink bug” refers to the scent glands located on the dorsal surface of the abdomen and the underside of the thorax. The brown marmorated stink bug was accidentally introduced into eastern United States. Halyomorpha halys has been recorded in numerous states from the east coast all the way to the west coast.
The brown marmorated stink bug is native to eastern Asia, existing in China, Japan, and Korea. Fruit tree orchards, soybean fields, and other areas where host plants occur, including the home landscape.
