Castnia psittachus
13 cm. Grey with white and orange spots in the inferior part of its wings.
It is the largest species of butterfly in Chile. This species lives in the Chilean Mediterranean woodlands and matorral where Chagual (Puya berteroniana) is found, especially in the mountain lands in Los Andes and the coastal mountain ranges of the country.
This is a species in danger in my country. It was found in one of the last Sclerophyll forest in Santiago, Chile. This woodland is going to be cut to build 1.200 houses. It's a pity!
