Velvet Mite

Description:

Small, bright red.

Habitat:

Forest

Notes:

If this mite wasn't so small, it would stick out like a sore thumb due to its bright coloration. Maybe in the family Trombidiidae, but I don't know enough about mites to confidently place it in that family. Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.

I've seen these around but never knew exactly what they were. This is awesome, thanks!
