I agree that it looks really similar, but I'd be hesitant to go beyond genus without being able to examine the beetle more closely. I'm fairly confident about the genus though.

I think your beetle is actually a kind of scarab. The legs and body shape make me think it's probably in this genus: http://bugguide.net/node/view/488089
