Stilt-legged Fly

Micropeziadae sp.

Description:

This insect was shaped like a very large ant with wings. The tail area was dark and as you can see the legs have white strips on them. It was waving the front legs in circles but not touching the head at all. Maybe it was attracting other insects to come closer. It measured no more than 1/2" from head to tail

Habitat:

tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica one month into the six month dry season
