Common Dog Violet -purple

Viola riviniana

Description:

A small plant with heart shaped leaves and 5-petalled pale or deep purple flowers about 30 mm tall. Leaf clusters grow from a single point and there are long runners which can sprout roots.

Habitat:

woodlands with shady trees.

Notes:

These plants are flowering everywhere in the moist heavily wooded parts of the Dandenong ranges in Victoria. These are beautiful little flowers considered as weeds in some places. Have corrected ID from wild violet to common dog violet
