Erica lusitanica

Description:

Thin to dense shrub up to 2 metres; spiky leaves straight off stems; small tubular bell flowers of white or pink.

Habitat:

Not yet declared a noxious weed in Victoria but already a problem in some parts of the world.

Notes:

The neighbour must have not known what this was when he razed every other plant on his block except for this one.

Ok thanks for that martin. I wasn't fully confident and will now try to dig deeper. The bush looks a bit taller than I remember them also.

I suspect this is a different heath since E, impressa has flat leaves and a narrow trumpet. However, like your wasp, I am not a botanist and cannot find a match in my one book=(
