Kandilpushpa, Lantern Flower

Cerophegia Vincaefolia

Description:

This is a peculiar flower. It has inwardly directed bristles. When an insects sits atop the flower it slides down in the central cavity and is unable to come out due to the inward bristles. As it reaches the bottom bulb where the pollens are located the flower becomes loose, opens completely and the insect, which carries the pollens is set free to fly away to pollinate other plants. Thus this is a unique plant which holds the insect as a HOSTAGE . It is not an insectivorous plant.
