Western Conifer Seed Bug

Leptoglossus occidentalis

Description:

The long conspicuous legs with their flattened segments identifies this insect as a member of the leaf-footed bugs. Reddish brown coloration with a white zig-zag line across the back identifies it as a western conifer seed bug.

Habitat:

Forests, especially pine forests. These insects overwinter as adults and I often find them crawling about my house on warm winter days.

Notes:

First one of these I've seen this year in my house, but we've had a strange winter with very warm temperatures. Maybe that has something to do with it.
