Trachemys scripta elegans
These turtles did not have red ears. It was nice and sunny and they were really enjoying sunbathing. The other turtle was busy eating though.
Saw this in the local pond.
and Cindy it is confirmed by Mitch Ray,so you cannot be wrong at all!! Thank you Mitch and a Very Happy New year to you! Nice to see you appear and disappear!!
Hi Emma, I'm glad you agree with my original ID although I'm not sure what happened to my ID suggestion. Great turtle information!
Due to the pattern on the plastrons, there is a very high possibility that this is a red eared slider. Would somebody like to confirm this?
Red-Eared Sliders also do not always have red ears either, due to pigmentation issues or as some age, especially the males, they will become almost melanistic, its usally good to look at the plastrons as the Red-Eared Sliders have fairly distinct markins on them. Not saying these guys are Red ears just random info. :P
It looks like a western painted turtle to me as well. There are a couple varieties that look similar.
no worries Cindy! You made the suggestion of painted turtle though ,which I think is helpful! :)
is difficult to tell . That is why i always make a visual inspection and mental note of it before i take a picture. It so happened that a girl beside me was admiring it. I asked her if it could be red eared slider. She too noticed that it did not have red ears.
Thanks for you feed back!!
Sorry, it's hard to tell with the pics. It may be a Chrysemys picta bellii - Western Painted Turtle
