Common Greenshield Lichen

Flavoparmelia caperata

Notes:

I found my lichen in the woods it was not close to the road. It was found on Massabesic Middle School Campus in Southern Maine. The day I found it was 1/18/12 at 8:00 am. It was cold and windy right after a snowstorm. It was 3º celsius. It was a cloudy day. I think my lichen is Flavoparmelia caperata. It was grayish color on the outside and green in the middle. It was very bumpy. The tree it was on was alive and a little bit bigger then the lichen. The lichen was half way up the tree. The common name is common Greenshield Lichen. Kingdom:Fungi Division:Ascomycota Class:Lecanoromycetes Order:Leconorates Family:Parmelieceace Genus:Flavoparmelia Species:F.caperata
