Odocoileus virginianus
The Eastern white-tail is a medium sized deer that standing approximately 3.5 feet at the shoulder with a reddish brown coat in the warmer months that shifts to a greyish in the winter. Males (bucks) are larger than females and grow antlers that can stretch up to 3 feet across.
Traditionally deer live in wooded area, but will travel through rural and suburban neighborhood's gardens and lawns browsing (eating). This particular suburban yard is somewhat secluded so deer often stop to rest here as well, occasionally bedding down for the night. With the exception of a few cold days our Autumn has been quite a warm one so far.
This young buck was one of at least 4 resting in the immediate area. (Another can be seen at http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/999... ). They did not cluster together as closely as the herds of does that we see in spring and summer, but at one point three did come rest within 30 or so feet of each other. No does were in sight at all throughout the day.

One of two seen in the yard one morning (Turns out there were at least 4sprinkled around the general area). This one rested on the west end of the fenced in yard, The other rested on the east end, both facing north. Like bookends.
This guy's position was not far from my kitchen window (In fact it is laying in the path that leads down the side of the house). It ignored me while I made coffee and washed last night's dishes (don't judge me!), but I think it began to get a little bit fed up with me around the 400th picture (see second picture). I didn't go away so it went to sleep instead. Or pretended to, anyway. The ears started flickering around like little radar dishes gone as soon as his nose sunk down and touched the ground (first pic).
